rust on chokes!

Cleaning the gun (k80 supersport) out the other day after a heavy session in the rain I noticed the chokes required quite a bit of effort to remove them. The top choke looks like it's picked up some rust around the thread and just at the end of the barrel. Removed them and cleaned them up,and used a bronze bursh to clean the spot up .I put a light coat of oil around them to avoid this re-occurance. I will need to be more regimented with the choke cleaning (only cleaned the barrel last time, didn't remove the chokes).
Should I leave them with a coat of oil to avoid this in the future, or would a smear of grease be better placed ?
Is this spot likely to now be a weak area that'll cause future problems? Or will more attention to the chokes after cleaning be sufficient to keep this at bay?
With the wet 'n cold season now apon us I want to keep on top of this and not cause any larger problems.....
Many thanks.

Chris, you should always use a light grease on your choke tubes. Oil just does not cut it as it dries out to quickly. I would recommend the Schmierfix grease but any light grease will do so long as it is waterproof and heat resistant. Do not put too much on but make sure you have a light coating on threads and choke body.
