Dear Alan,
Hi there. I wish to make a permanent addition of lead weight to my stock by boring a hole under my stock bolt hole and filling it with 6 1/2 ounces of lead, to bring the balance of my muzzle heavy B425 back nearer the hinge pin. What diameter hole should I bore and what depth should I bore to? I want the lead plug to sit just flush under the recoil pad.
Thanks
Con
Alan

Tough question to answer without seeing the stock. Normally a 12.5mm hole is as large as you are able to go, especially near the bottom of the stock. You wil need to make the lead into a cylinder of the same diameter as the hole you want to drill so my suggestion is to proceed as follows. Take around 8 ounces of lead and cast it into a cylinder shape. A good way is to cast it into a length of pipe about the right diamater. Cut off down to the weight you need and measure the length. That tells you how deep the hole needs to be and if it is possible to drill that deeply in your stock. One point to be careful of is to make sure your drill does not break out of the underside of the stock.

Alan - sounds great - I did this and ended up only adding 4 oz of lead. The balance is now only 3/4 inch infront of the pin, but the gun doesnt feel heavy as it did when I tried 7-8 oz in the stock bolt hole.
Will try it out in a few hours on some skeet and trap - but it should be fine.
Thanks again
