Alan,

Could you offer some advice on selling a gun through the post in the UK). I have advertised an unwanted gun and someone wants it from Scotland?

Any transfer of a shotgun in the UK must be done on a "face to face" basis. Simply put this means that you may not sell a shotgun to someone by mail order. If the purchaser wants to see the gun you can send it to a registered firearms dealer, if he agrees, for your purchaser to view. If the sale goes ahead the purchaser sends you his shotgun certificate and you enter on the details of the gun he is buying and notify his issuing police authority of the sale. On return of his certificate he can then visit the dealer and collect the gun in person.
Alternatively, if the dealer is known to you he may transfer the gun on your behalf by adding it to the purchaser's certificate and notifying the police accordingly. A fee for this service would be appropriate.
