Regarding this shoot I would be very interested to hear from Ladies, Veterans and Juniors regarding Category prizes. In past years we have not given separate prizes and the Categories have competed in Class. We have however given a sponsored High Gun prize. I have received complaints that we only give one prize in the Categories but it is hard to see how we can do anything else other than take you out of the Class prizes and put you in a class of your own. We cannot take two prizes out of the prize fund as this is not fair to everyone else. If we do put you in a separate group the available prize money will be less than it is in the Classes. Let me have your views or better still post a topic on the new forum and let us see if we can get a discussion going.

I agree with your sentiments in the quote above from the Krieghoff news issue3, but surely the cost of some small [relatively small] trophy to the high gun in each of these class's as well as any prize monies they may win, would not split any prize fund to a significant amount. After all l am sure you or Krieghoff have links with some trophy suppliers in the UK to get preferential rate.[/quote]

We already do give a sponsored High Gun prize of a watch in each Category, this is in addition to a medal. I agree that it would not be a big deal to give a medal to the second and third placed category winners also. The problem is the cash. I have been approached in the past by Veteran category winners to ask why there is no cash prize in the categories. The simple answer is because we decided at the beginning that categories would shoot in their lettered class and be eligible for the class prize money. Now if we change this and give the categories their own prize fund we cannot let them also draw on the class prize fund. It is simply wrong to let one person have two draws out of the prize fund. The second problem is that of cash amounts. If we do take all the Ladies, Veterans and Juniors out of the Class money their total entry will only build a very small pot for their prize fund. I can also forsee that we would have one category saying how come there was the same money in another category when there were less entries. Because of the difference in the prize fund there is no doubt in my mind that some would elect to shoot in class and not category. This means their portion would come out of the category fund and back into the classes, further reducing the pot available to category winners.
I do have some sympathy with category shooters, especially veterans as they frequently fall into AA and are competing with the top shots. I do not see an easy solution to this but I am open to suggestions.

I am pleased to announce that we there will now be additional prizes for the Ladies, Juniors and veterans at the Krieghoff DTL. First in each category will be £100 with second and third winning £60 and £40 respecitively. All category winners are eligible for class money in addition to their category prize. The new category prizes are sonsored and will not be taken out of the main prize fund. In addition to this I am delighted to tell you that Arthur Willimas has pledged "The Mid Wales Cup" for the Junior High Gun and is looking for two other sponsors for the Ladies and Veterans classes. thank you Arthur for your continued generosity to the sport.
