Shooting the K-80 Trap Special

The K-80 Trap Special has a high adjustable rib, which has caught on in a big way in the US. Here in the UK it has so far failed to make any impact. John Bellamy has used one for about a year and pronounces it simply awesome. Paul Chaplow has one and cannot believe how much better the visibility around the rib is. So why are we not seeing them appear around the grounds?

I think it is the classic situation of dealers being reluctant to stock something new and very different before shooters beat a path to their doors wanting to see one. Most shooters are probably not really fully aware of the advantages of the adjustable rib even though they may have seen John and Paul shooting one. I guess we have to take responsibility for failing to get the advantages over in our advertising.

Setting up an adjustable rib is actually very easy if you follow some basic rules. Logically it has to be the way to go as a shooter can choose the exact point of impact for each barrel of his gun, inch perfect. This, combined with the improved visibility over the rib and the straight-line recoil, is a huge step forward in competition guns.

I personally have not shot much at all for a couple of years but this rib is interesting. I did have a few shots with the first prototype but never really set one up properly to see how well it worked for me. I decided that we would add one of these guns to our demo fleet and that I would shoot it and get it set up exactly how I want it. At the same time it will be available for others to have a shot with.

As this may be of interest to anyone thinking of going the high rib way, I decided to keep a journal and publish it here. If you find this of interest and have any questions then email me.
