For generations, the Drilling has been the ideal choice of European hunters to meet the ever changing hunting situations for experienced hunters. The basic principle is as valid as ever, continuing to be the most versatile hunting firearm to get the job done. Combining side by side 20b barrels with the .222 Rem underneath, this gun is handy enough to deal with any winged game or vermin but has the .222 on hand if you come across a fox sitting out of shotgun range. As on a conventional shotgun, the triggers fire the right and left shotgun barrels. Pushing forward a clearly marked selector alongside the top strap selects the rifle barrel. The Optima also features a manual cocking device for maximum safety. In the rearward position the gun is de-cocked and cannot be fired. When pushed forward the gun is cocked and as long as the cocking device is forward the locks are cocked by the down stroke of the barrels as on a conventional shotgun.
All UK Police forces are aware of drillings and combination guns and it should not be a problem to obtain a firearm certificate for sporting use.
This model Optima is the "Thermo Stabil" version. This means that the rifle barrel is free floating and completely unaffected by heat induced torque. The point of impact does not change when the barrel heats up from a succession of shots.
A flip-up back-sight is located on the rib for use with the rifle barrel.
The steel receiver is engraved with small arabesques and finished in durable hard nickel. The stock and forearm feature a Bavarian cheek-piece and are nicely figured.
Insert barrels can be fitted to either shotgun barrel up to an including 9.3X74R. Additional barrels in different calibres are available and any Optima Drilling with a steel receiver can be converted to a double rifle drilling by making only a few changes. |
